I'm aware that the iPad doesn't charge quickly while connected by USB to my Mac. I've been using the supplied wall adaptor to charge it and it seems to take a really long time to charge compared to other Apple products. I had a 50% battery life remaining this morning and plugged it in to charge. Four hours later, it's up to 90%. That implies it would take about 10 hours to recharge the iPad from a dead battery. Does this sound right?
Mine charges to 100% plugged into the wall after two hours, but I rarely get down to 50% in one day. It charges overnight with USB. Are you not charging every night?
I may have solved my own question. I also have an iPhone and I was just using the same wall adaptor that I use for the phone and plugging that into my iPad. I did a charge using the charging unit that was supplied with the iPad and it went from 50% to 100% in 2 hours. The would mean a full charge should be obtainable in 4 hours. Apparently the charging units supplied by Apple are device specific even though the connector is interchangeable.
Make sure you are using the power brick that came in your iPad box, sync cable shouldn't matter. If you are using the power brick that came with your iPad, there is something wrong with the hardware and you need to talk to Apple. It shouldn't take 10 hours to charge.
Charging Tips
The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
My question WAS to snowflurry, however, i solved my problem. Contrary to EVERYTHING ive read, the cord does matter. I used ipad wall charger block, but my longer cord which I use for my I touch. It charged from 2% to 4% in two hours! Once i used the correct USB cable/cord from wall charger to ipad, it charged to 100 in 4 hours (exactly, oddly enough).
I just bought an iPad and noticed that the cord makes a difference. I had my iPad plugged into the 10w adapter but I had a USB 6ft extender connected to the cord that came with the iPad. Had it plugged in for 8 hours and it only went from 50% to 66%.
I also should note that the adapter was plugged into a 6ft power extension cord as well.
After I plugged it into the 10w adapter with the short cord and direct into a wall outlet it went from 66% to 80% in 1 hour.
I had the same issue and it appears solved. I was using an aftermarket cable with the iPad charger and it would regularly take 8 hours to charge. Switched back to original cable and charge times are back to normal. Wish apple would provide a longer cable.
