iPhone 4 rebuilding photo library and losing photos

Hello, I have an iPhone 4. Photos saved to the Photo album caused the photo library to rebuild--and all photos taken by this iPhone, as well as the pix I was trying to save, have vanished.

Anyone have this problem? is there a fix?

Thanks!

Here's what happened to me. I had about 580 photos in my library. I received a picture message via text and saved it to the library. When I went to look at the picture in the library the picture saved fuzzy and distorted so I deleted it. I then went back to the camera roll the next day and got the message saying that the photo library was rebuilding. After the rebuild my photo library only had 480 pictures. The 100 pictures that were missing were not re-arranged into a different order, they were gone. Then what I did was save the picture that I had deleted before again, and all of the missing pictures showed up. Very odd.

FWIW, I think I just lost some photos and a video permanently from my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2):

• I had only 100+ photos on my iPhone; about 70 in albums, and 50 in the camera roll. About 300-400 MB free.

• Today I took four photos (well, two HDR pairs) and shot a 26-second video.

• When I got home and looked at the pictures, there were only two--the first pair. Everything after that (the second pair and the video) were gone.

• I synched to iPhoto and back, rebooted the iPhone, and checked among older photos. But those last few photos/video are just gone. I thought it could be a space issue, but I did have sufficient space, and no warnings appeared.

I've thought through it trying to decide whether I could somehow have THOUGHT I was taking pictures/video when I wasn't... it's just possible, but I don't think so.

Luckily nothing important, since I'm returning to the same park tomorrow anyway!

My wife seems so have lost ALL HER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS on her Iphone on this issue, just now.

Last week the phone autmatically started to rebuild her library, we then managed to save som 5000 puctires last week, today it did the same thing but the update of the library was cancelled and now the photo-library on the phone is completly empty. There should be a few hundred new photos missing from this last week.

I have checked in iphoto and in the mac image-import-program, whateverthat is called. It says 0 photos 0 videos.

Any suggesting on what to to, the phone is not backed up. Teh pictures are gone.

Is there any way to restore a deleted or missing photo-album on an iphone 4?

I have this problem too. As a matter of fact, it did it on my 3GS when I updated it to the 4.x firmware. My iPhone 4 has always done it, and does to this day. I've tried leaving the photos app open, and closed, but nothing stops this. It is random, but each time it will corrupt a random photo so it shows just a jpg logo, and deletes every photo after the corrupted one. I'm getting real sick of it. It would be wise to check each photo being saved as you go just to ensure you aren't wasting your time saving subsequent photos that will only be deleted. I should add that after several restores, five different brand new iPhone 4s, it is obvious that we have a serious software problem.

One other annoying issue with the photos app is this strange blurring of the photo or photos being viewed for a few seconds before it clears up for normal viewing.

Getting anything done about any of this is next to impossible. I've reported it to tech support so many times. They in turn claim to take the issue to the engineers who say it is a non issue and refuse to even look into it, much less fix it. Same thing with iTunes taking two restores to get our folder structure back the way it is in the backup file onto a new or wiped clean phone. The engineers claim that is a non issue as well. Even the techs confirm all of the above mentioned to be a problem, even on their phones, yet said issues do not exist. How long has iOS 4 been out now, and we are about to partake in iOS 5, leaving these problems unfixed. Hopefully they magically disappear with the new operating system.

Go figure..

Hi! I actually have an iPod Toucg 4G. I had my screen repaired. While the technician was showing that my unit was fixed, I saw the "Updating Library" on my photos prompted on the screen. However, the technician cancelled it. And when I checked it, all the photos were gone. I really don't have a problem with retreiving the photos because I already have a back-up.

My problem is that my iPod touch did not actually clear any space in my storage. It's still almost full. It still says my camera roll occupies 17.8 GB where there are no photos/videos at all. 😟 Please help me just restore all the photos or clear away the 17GB space.

Thank you!
