Since updating my 3Gs to iOS4, my iPhone no longer reads some Excel properly (attachments in Mail). While some Excel files display correctly, more complicated (macro enabled) files get an "Unable to Read Document" error. The Excel files in question work fine and are confirmed to be virus-free. iPhone OS 3.x.x never had a problem with these files, it is directly related to iOS4. I've contacted document reading app eevelopers, and the best response I've received thus far is "The issue is rooted in iOS 4 I assume, and we are using its rendering engine for Excel..." I've compared to associates who use similar files and all the ones who have updated to iOS4 are experiencing the identical issue. I've also compared .xls files against .xlsx files - this is not a workaround.
I am also am having problems with Excel files after the iOS4 upgrade on my 3Gs.
Simple spreadsheets with percentage formulas display only "0%" in cells that have greater values on the original spreadsheet as viewed on my iMac.
I have issues with Excel files as well, and it pertains to the display of %'s.. It rounds them off, so documents are constantly showing either 0% or 1% in fields that have a percentage. It still displays properly on my old 3G phone (never updated to iOS4) and my iPad, but it's frustrating, cause I use my phone to read these daily reports (hotel occupancy forecasts). I hope the upcoming update addresses these issues.
same here too.
Can not find anything on the internet for that...
Does Jailbreak would solve it? Did someone tried?
Should we downgrade again?
I makes Iphone work capabilty move to zero...
I reported these issue to Apple on day of release. I was passed to US support. first off they were all over me asking for more examples, then the trail went cold. I have sent them 10 spreadsheets with these issues in but no feedback on a solution or anticipated firmware update.
On the "Unable To Read Document" issue I even sat down one evening and ripped the spreadsheet apart, built it from the ground up and the issue dissapeared/ still no reason why this occured.
As far as the % issues go, no luck in finding a solution to that one.
Far from impressed by support at this point in time, seems that the business customers are a side issue for Apple.
I can confirm the issue with percentages. I'm showing what is supposed to be 30.1% as .3%. It is showing as normal on IPad. Apple needs to fix quick, this is business critical information.
Any Excel file that was created by our SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) get this error. I think it's because SSRS uses an older XLS format that the iPhone does not understand. This is a big issue for us as some of our executives switched from BlackBerry (no issues) to the iPhone 4 and cannot open up very important Excel reports.
Error is:
"Unable to Read Document"
An error occurred while reading the document.
Any ideas if a fix will be out or know of a workaround?
just uploaded the new software to my phone (3gs) on friday and i immediately noticed alot of changes mostly bad.
phone freezes up and locks up
signal is weak and many dropped calls
screen goes blank periods at a time
music even skips when playing
3g is slower but not by much
is everyone else experiencing the same problems if so do you know when the fix is coming?
thanks
It might have something to do with email servers. I am having the same exact problem.
When I spoke with apple support they sent me a blank excel file, which I could open, then I sent them the excel file in question from my iphone and they could open it properly on their end. When they sent the file back to my iphone I could then open it. Alas I am still having problems opening excel files.
Not sure what the point of my post is now that I think about it.
Apologies for seeming rude, but thats rubbish. change your IT infrastructure to fix a mobile device? I think not.
Some basics:
ios 3.4.1 worked fine, ios 4 & 4.0.1 still dont work.
On ios 4.0.1 and calls still dropping, bluetooth on iphone4 still not stable with car yet the 3gs on same firmware works perfect.
My ear is still calling people midway through conversations on the phone (Maybe I need to be right eared as well as right handed?)
One good thing is battery life, so I can experience the misery of ios 4.x for longer periods of time.
Apple, if anyone from support reads this forum. are you actually looking to resolve these issues or are your paying customers just an annoyance who really need to learn how to work with the "New features" in more positive ways?
I called technical support and they basically told me, "This isn't a problem with with iOS4, maybe you should call Microsoft." Huh?
Then they told me to get a third party app that would work better. They recommended we get OfficeConnect. I looked at it and more than half the reviews said it was a total rip off.
We just converted 50 devices from Blackberrys to iPhone 4, thinking they were finally ready for business customers. Maybe that was a hasty decision.
Someone at Apple needs to make a definitive statement about this for us business customers. I don't see any workable solution right now and we can't reliably view Excel documents, that's a big problem.
