Unlimited data to data pro with tethering.

Yeah, if you are lucky enough to still have the unlimited, don't switch.

I'm sure there's some way to "Enable tethering on the Iphone 4" without paying that stupid fee.

No you cannot switch back. Also I don't think it's worth it since you do get any extra data for the $20 you pay for tethering.

Upgrading your phone doesn't require changes to your data plan unless you're renewing the contract (in which case you won't have the unlimited plan anyways). If you're adding a line, have the new device set up for the old line and vice versa (you'll need a new SIM card for the old phone......be sure they program the iPhone 4 SIM for the OLD ACCOUNT because it can't be changed without a new SIM). Otherwise, it's just a simple changing of devices.

The only way you could switch back, is if you return the i4 within it's return limit. Then everything will reset to before you got the phone. Your contract renewal date, your upgrade eligibility, and any plan modifications you made for the phone.

the only way you lose it is if you change the plan to a new one

An AT&T rep told me this. The unlimited plans are no longer available. The code isn't available for reps to choose when setting up a plan. When you renew a contract, you must still choose from AVAILABLE plans. If your old plan isn't available for choosing, then you'll have to go with the alternatives. Unlimited data is no longer available.

Upgrading my iPhone...I had to renew/resign a new contract for 2 years to get the subsidized pricing. I was in fact able to keep my unlimited plan...and my son was able to also. If you already have the unlimited plan...you are able to keep it.

WRONG

I too was able to keep my unlimited data plan when I upgraded to the iPhone 4. Whether it makes more sense for me to keep it vs switch to the 2G plan with tethering is a different story. I suspect we may see some unique tethering plan for unlimited packages if the iPhone is on VZW next year with tethering.

That is incorrect.

Unlimited is still available for companies though. I just got a new iPhone with my company and it has the unlimited plan ($22.50 a month including 200 texts)

At "sjharris"...How is what I said incorrect??? Both my son and myself upgraded to the iPhone 4's...him from a 3G and me from a 3GS and both resigned for 2 more years and we both STILL have our unlimited plans. There is nothing incorrect about that!

You're welcome! Just make sure you instruct them that you want to keep your current iPhone unlimited data plan. 😉
