minimum bitrate

I have a 310 minute video that I need to compress for DVD. Using a few different bit-rate calculators, it appears that I need to compress at 1.7 Mbps. The problem is, Compressor doesn't let me drop the bit-rate below 2.0 Mbps.

I'm using Compressor 3.0.5

Any ideas how I can make this video file small enough?

The other option I was considering is using a dual-layer disk. Is there any difference in authoring a dual layer?

You need to use a dual-layer disc. It works fine, although you have to specify the break point. But even 3.4mbps is really low.

You could also consider lowering the resolution to 352x480 or 352x240. These are supported by the DVD spec. Obviously they are lower resolution, but it allows you to use half or one quarter the normal bitrate. Lowering the resolution and a very low bitrate are compromises, and only you can decide what tradeoffs are acceptable.

Using multiple discs is another option. A dual-layer disc, and a single layer extras disc would give you a good amount of space to work with.
