Pages '09 and Word .docx files

While I have iWork 08, I tend to use Office for Mac 08 for compatibility reasons. Having bought an iPad and downloaded Pages for iPad I need to see whether Pages 09 will open .docx files from Word. Does anyone know? I have thought about the 30-day trial version of iWork, but suspect that might be problematical if I decide not to permanently proceed to iWork '09 (these trials are sometimes non-reverseable).

Thanks
Andy

Just create your own.

I approached the lack of a file extension several ways.

1. I deleted it from the name of saved files in the Finder.

2. I left +Append file extension+ checked in the Save dialogue box in MsWord (append = add)

3. I unchecked +Append file extension+ in the Save dialogue box in MsWord

4. I turned off +Show all filename extensions+ in Finder preferences

5. I turned on +Show all filename extensions+ in Finder preferences

Under 10.5.8 (in French), I re did tests with the document sent by the OP.

It's a docx file deprived of extension.

As is I was unable to open it receiving the "invalid format" message.

User uploaded file

Screenshot done using the Open menu.

I retried after adding a dot at the end of the name.
This time, unable to open but no alert.

I added the extension and the docx opened flawlessly.

I exported it as .doc file.

With the extension it opens with no problem.
With only the dot, nada
Without the complete extension, one more time, I got the message : "invalid format".

Now, I will no longer waste my time about that.
I tried to help someone which refuse to admit what I discovered.

peter wrote that we were wasting time doing the things the wrong way.
As I didn't made conjectures but just made tests, I take that as insulting !
So I stop searching on a problem which doesn'(t matter for me as every doc arriving here is, normally, automatically redirected to the trash.
