I don't really like my iPad. Am I alone?

I have an iPad 64Gb/3G. I like the idea of the iPad and I have been making a big effort to using it a lot for the past 4 weeks, but I just can't seem to get used to it! I try everything: iBooks (a heavy-weight book if you ask me and quite awkward to hold), email (a pain to write), browser (hard to hold it in one hand and use the other hand to 'finger' the screen), music (can't find a reason to use this over my iPhone), games (surely some are interesting). Is it because I have both an iPhone and a MacBook? I just find it easier to use the latter for pretty much everything. Am I alone? I am not complaining about the product, but I was hoping I would grow to really really like it, but it's not happening.....sad really.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Unibody, Late 2009), Mac OS X (10.6.2), 4 GB RAM

I LOVE my iPad! I do not have a MacBook though. I guess the iPad comes in handy for me because it's bigger than my iPhone which makes it much more enjoyable to spend time on. However, it's much more portable even than a MacBook. I use it on my couch, at jury duty, at the hospital sitting with a relative and even at work. I use it mostly for enjoyment and I love the touchscreen.
I think you have tried it long enough and it sounds like it's just not a good fit for you. No reason to wonder why-----if the iPhone and MacBook do all that you want and need, then you are in good shape.

I can't. I bought it with my hospital-allocated education fund so it pretty much belongs to the hospital I am working at. I will, however, try to use it more to present microscopic photos (of blood morphology) to students and residents, etc. as the quality of the screen is stunning. The portability is surely a plus. Don't worry, I won't leave it unappreciated!

I like my iPad 3G, but have some gripes, too.

1) I dread typing on the thing. I find it excruciatingly slow to make even a short forum post like this.

2) I wish we had multitasking already. Can't wait till Fall.

3) don't care for files getting isolated in a particular app's environment. I have PDFs spread out in at least three different apps.

4) my hand is not steady enough to easily do selections for copy and paste.

5) And yes it does get heavy holding in one hand for extended sessions.

Still I like it and use it. Hope the next model is lighter and has easier methods of input.

I use mine all the time. My laptop goes unused most days (and yet i'm about to get a new custom MBP). I have a few things I would like but they don't hinder my enjoyment...I wish multitasking and folders would get here, and I would like iPad versions of Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks (but not Flash) as I use those in graphics design, and at that point I could completely replace my laptop with the iPad...

I have to say I love mine. I have the new 27" i7 and macbook pro and find myself using the iPad more than anything else. It goes everywhere with me. When I am 'greenlaning' on my bike it sits in a tank bag running memory map software being used for navigation. I use it at work in meetings to take notes and on the couch to check mail and surf. In bed in the morning I read the times on it.

I have found it a transformational device and don't regret it for a moment.

I love my iPad, my MacBook Pro and iMac are going pretty much unused. When I do use them, it feels like I'm taking a step back to the 20th Century. The iPad is immersive but like others have said, it does not suit everyone.

My brother couldn't get his head round the iPad, but when I showed him what you can do and how you do it, he soon got it.

The reason my Macs are being used less is quite simple. I do a lot of correspondence so the iPad fits into my life perfectly, my ageing shoulder is feeling the benefit of not lugging around a heavy laptop bag everywhere I go. However, when it comes to the heavy lifting I need, the Macs are used to their fullest.

I can't say if you're alone or not, only that I don't feel the same way. My MacBook Pro, which I love and use for work and bring home daily, now rarely comes out of my laptop bag when at home. I used to use it constantly at home, but now I grab the iPad. It's so much more convenient for almost everything I used the MacBook Pro for while at my house (web, email, news, videos, etc.).

I don't and can't use it for editing my photographs or putting together videos, but I imagine before too long, especially after using iMovie on the iPhone 4, that I'll start using it or one of its successors for my photo & video work.
