to pre-sign or not to pre-sign...

that is the question.

Granted, the terms and conditions are very straight forward in stating a complete write-off of ALL responsibility (see below)...has anyone done this before and what is your recommendation/experience? Seeing as I will likely be at work and work 10+ hour days I also miss the time windows to go in directly to fedex to pick up a missed delivery. And no, I don't have any reliable way of having someone else (even a neighbor) sign on my behalf. Thanks.

Terms and Conditions
I understand that Apple requires signatures acknowledging receipt of delivered goods. By signing the Shipment Release Authorization form, I hereby authorize Apple's carrier to leave my package at the address I have specified for delivery when placing my order. I understand that, in so doing, I assume the risk of any loss, theft, or destruction, and release Apple and its carriers from all liability that may result from, leaving the package where I have indicated on the Shipment Release Authorization form.

I pre-signed for mine since it came a day early. But I work about 15 mins away and called fedex every hour (this was launch delivery time). It came about 10 mins before my hourly fedex call so I drove home to get it. I'm in a very safe area but no way would I leave it for very long - just too tempting. Your other option is to call FedEx and ask them to hold it at your closest pickup point (our distribution center is very close) so you don't have to worry about it. Then you can go pick it up. You can also pre-sign but have them leave it with a neighbor you trust vs at your door.

Bottom line, will you be ****** if it gets stolen? If yes, don't pre-sign and arrange to pick it up at FedEx.

I wouldn't risk it. I don't know what happened with the issue where customers were receiving empty packages, but in the event that something like this happens to you or someone else who pre-signed I'd assume that it would be very painful to go through apple/fed-ex with complaints of a missing iPhone after you've already pre-signed the package.
