IPhone 4 Bluetooth Issues

IPhone 4 doesn't allow reasonable range and other issues with bluetooth headset. Fyi, tried with Apple Bluetooth headset which worked perfectly with IPhone 3G & IPhone 3G-S. Issue, you can have IPhone 4 in shirt or pant pocket and bluetooth will disconnect. Also, you can have IPhone 4 inside car and close the door while standing right outside the door and bluetooth disconnects. This never happened with previous models including IPhone 3G-S with IOS 4 installed.

Other bluetooth issues: as others reported - muffled sound quality to person your talking to. Time delays and disconnects with bluetooth Uconnect. IPhone 4 won't let you change between your car audio phone feature back to IPhone 4 without freezing.

I have an iphone 4 and have not had any success with the quality of the audio with the Icon...I was told that it was the Jawbone itself, so I paired it with my work phone and the ICON was crystal clear. I am disappointed that I purchased the 4 b/c bluetooth is critical to me.

I really hope Apple can address this with an IOS update, but I am loosing hope that this is a flawed design.

Also updated with some minor hope.
Well.. no idea yet. With my SE headset things gone worse, the headset is often.. somehow "half" connected and I need to power it off and on to get it working again. My Plantronic is working a little bit better regarding the radius, but drops off quite often for no obvious reason.
But at least I can put my phone now into my coatpocket without a sudden disconnect. But that all I guess for now. What a shame.

I updated a week ago and "thought" it had fixed the issue. However, I am wrong, the issue still exists. It does not appear to be as bad as before and the re-syncing seems to last a bit longer, but I would still suggest turning your phone off once a day and your bluetooth device and then turning them both on, maybe even deleting the pairing and redoing it as well.

What a joke....

I originally called apple support with my bluetooth issues a few weeks after purchasing an iPhone 4 on launch day. My original case was moved to an higher level advisor. I was told there would be a software fix. That advisor stopped replying to my emails along the way. The wonderful tech support at Jawbone told me that I would have to do frequent network resets to use my Icon with an iPhone 4. After iOS 4.2.1 did not fix my issue I called Apple support to find that my case had been dropped without resolution of my issue. I started another case with yet another advisor after fighting the out of warranty period issue. I mentioned this discussion to say I'm not the only one and he basically said don't believe everything you read on the internet. He later said that there would be a software fix. I recently informed him that iOS 4.3 did not help. He said Apple is aware of this issue and that I should post a comment to Apple Feedback… Apple Feedback? REALLY??? I guess I'll post this feedback after posting it here like a good little Apple fanboy. This has been the worst support on any Apple product since my first Apple IIe and the dozens of Apple products since. They act as if I should forget about using my Jawbone or Toyota Land Cruiser handsfree. I should be happy they have provided such nice wired earbuds or just continue to reset when people complain that they can't hear me. Time is running out for that alleged software fix. Go away now fanboy until it's time for the annual line up for the IPhone 5 launch. Looks like I'm expected to buy new hardware that will hopefully work with bluetooth like all of my previous iPhones have. This is not Apple quality support.

My Plantronics Voyager Pro+ worked perfectly for nearly 2 weeks using the 4.3 Gold Master and then yesterday, the headset started disconnecting from the phone (2 feet away on the couch) and people started telling me I was sounding like Darth Vader again. I was really hopeful that 4.3 had fixed these issues since I had zero problems for almost 2 weeks, but alas, the problem is back.

This is not a hardware problem if the phone and headset work fine for days on end before problems creep up. Why on earth does the connection deteriorate over time Apple?????? No new apps or anything were installed in the several days prior to the problem returning.

I've just done a "reset network settings" - we'll see how long that keeps things working this time.

I owned the iphone3gs and handed it down to my daughter. I bought the iPhone 4. Man that was one of those days I wish I could do over the blue tooth on the 4 *** n my opinion. I mean with the 3GS I could forget my phone in the house and exceed the 30 foot range and still be talking. Now if my 4 is on my desk and I lean back n my chair I am loosing connection. I had the playtronics pro which I have used forever with no trouble but it just could not work together with the 4(worked great on the 3GS though)now I have the new Bose it works a little better but still no where near as good as it should. I did notice that if I take my otter box defender case off of the iPhone that the blue tooth range is better but still not as good as it should be(had a defender on y 3GS also but no problem with it) this problem will make my decision on my next phone something besides the I 4 if this can't be fixed. With my work I can not and will not function without blue tooth. I shouldn't have to sacrifice either.

Although my bluetooth headset has been working wonderfully since I got an iPhone 4, I've been facing some range and "Darth Vader" issues for a couple of days. I don't know if it's iOS's 4.3.1 fault, but I've never had such a short-distance bluetooth connection on any iPhone. I did a normal restart on the iPhone and seems to be working fine now, being able to talk through 3 brick walls. Hope it lasts.

Checking in with the same problem. Apple has replaced my phone twice now and the problem persists.

BT in my vehicle worked flawlessly for ~2 years and has been broken with every iPhone4 tested. 2/3 calls are muffled and when they are, call quality can be restored by switching to iphone then back to the BT device. This works everytime, but is not ideal while driving.

Bought a Jawbone earpiece recently and that too is muffled/garbled.

Just wanted to toss in my two cents...

Three headsets, Motorola, Jawbone, and the Apple Headset with my iPhone 4...

At first I thought it was the headset so I picked up another. As I found, and after reading these posts, it's obviously the phone.

I'm told I sound muffled, like I'm in a tunnel, my voice sounds "digital", or they just can't hear me.

My Jawbone is constantly dropping the connection to the iPhone.

Hope the issue is resolved soon with a future update.

In the meantime, I'll attempt a network reset.

I am running the iphone 4.3.1 OS and recently purchased the 903+ headset. I was also having drop out issues with the BT headset when going for a run. I would have the little "blips" where it looses connection for around 1/8 second and then reconnects. I also had numerous total dropped connection, then it would reconnect within 1 or 2 seconds, but you would need to restart the ipod tunes via the button on the unit (this became very annoying). I read on another blog that if you turn off the WiFi it fixes the issue, so I tried it this morning to relative success. I did not have any drop out / disconnections, however I did have the odd "blip" when you move your arm or head, or touch the edge of the iphone 4 (say to change the volume or move the arm band). There seems an issue with the iphone BT signal but the main issue of dropped connections has gone and I am much happier. I hope this helps.

This iPhone 4 is absolutely maddening. I cant believe Apple didnt address this with latest software update. My phone pairs with my 2011 GMC but constantly drops calls, I cant answer incoming calls, and it cant find the phone for outgoing calls. My HTC Tilt prior to this iPhone was bulletproof with bluetooth. Complaint filed with Apple but really feeling let down by them. As much as I love most aspects of this iPhone, the bluetooth issues are quickly becoming a deal killer for me.

I as well bought a Jawbone Icon a few days ago & had to return it due to constant complaints that my voice sounded distant and muffled to my listeners. Jawbone claims it is a problem with the iPhone 4 which needs to be addressed with a software patch from Apple, but being as this problem has been reported on forums at least since mid-2010, that is unlikely to happen. When I contacted AT&T, they suggested I try the Sound ID 510 Bluetooth device, and if that did not work, simply use the corded earset that came with the iPhone 4 for hands free calling. So far, the Sound ID 510 is working without problem.
