IPhone 4 Bluetooth Issues

No luck here still. The only way to make the connection is to Off and then On the Bluetooth setting. This is a pain when you have to do something when it should work no matter what. Of the 3 BT devices I have none of them work.

Bluetooth implementation ***** for iPhone 4S only to some BT devices, why?

Just to provide an update. I now have the 4S using the OS 5.0. All Bluetooth devices are working. That is two Onstar/GM Bluetooth cars [Siri actually works as well], a SoundID 510, a Jabra speakerphone and a Logitech keyboard.

Very happy now.

Took a bit of doing on the SoundID - you must bring the SoundID out of the restore mode to allow it to be discovered and paired but otherwise it works great. In fact, the comments I get are that I am now MUCH clearer on the phone than I was previously with the iPhone 4 using the pre-OS 5.0.

Give it a day or two Trux1 I doubt even one 4 or 4s doesn't suffer from this design flaw.

unless the device is one or two feet away from the phone and isn't obstucted by anything thicker cheese cloth you're going to have problems.

Ok so my Jawbone Era just came in.

I can finally put the 4S in my pocket and walk around.

Only time will tell but a short range test I can get exactly 12ft before I hear the popping/clicking.

Less if I go behind a wall at 6ft I start hearing the popping/clicking.

It's pitiful that this is even an issue on the 4 ½ release of a device.

For now if this is the best I can get I will settle for the Apple design flaw.

Be a problem with the Bluetooth device stop pointing fingers at everyone else.

You know what would be great an apology from apple for lying to us.

I also have the ERA with my 4S and my range isn't intermittent until about 20-30 feet. I also don't experience any popping noises or problems syncing or pairing the device. The interaction with Siri is annoying if I am listening to musi and the phone won't play text alerts natively...only through the ERA...but other than that I've been happy with it.

Good to hear the Era is working nicely with the 4s. I'm currently using an Icon which works OK, just time for a BT upgrade and am likely to pick up the Era. I had no issues pairing the Icon or pairing the 4s with my uConnect in 2011 Jeep Liberty. The clairity when connected in the Jeep is excellent as a couple of people have made comments on it.

I have a Merceds ML 350 2011. You need to let the vehicle find the phone. It will than ask you to put in a code of your choosing say 0000 than say ok and you will see a keyboard come up on your phone. Place the code in the phone and it will connect.

Very long thread I never knew existed until now. I did not use Bluetooth with my iPhone 4. Just never had a need for it. I just purchased a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta TDI with the Fender audio system last weekend. The dealer saw I had an iPhone and synced it to the vehicle's handsfree. We called my wife to test the connection.

It was like Manna from the Heavens. I had never had handsfree before this vehicle. I left the dealership stunned to say the least and called several people to try it out on my drive home. I have yet to experience the disconnects I am reading here.

Several days later I realized the audio system had a BT Media In selection and me being the smarty pants that I am now about BT in the car, began streaming my first BT song (Mozart: Requiem in D Minor, Rex Tremendae). I waited for that Manna feeling again.

It sounded like... like... turd? I couldn't believe it. The highs were too high and lows were nonexistent. There was a constant scratchy hiss covering the entire piece. I switched to other pieces, to children's music, to just about anything else I own. Every song sounded terrible and exactly the same.

Switch back to the Sirius and everything was righted again. HD FM, FM, AM, Sirius, iPhone with Aux cabling, all great on that 9-speaker Fender system. But iPhone with BT audio? Awful, just awful.

Probably the BT system in your car doesn't switch to A2DP which is the proper standard for music, for some reason. It's using voice codecs to connect with the iPhone. I believe you should heck the settings on your car BT system...

Thank you for the reply. I'm still new when it comes to my stock VW Bluetooth and unfortunately, at least as I can tell, there are no direct touch panel settings for the Bluetooth. I'll keep exploring.

Meanwhile, I have brought out an older 32gb iPod for the iPod connection in the glove box and have all my music with me that way.

Will keep researching on the VW side for Bluetooth settings.

Just chiming in to report my new iPhone 4S also has the muffled/garbled issue with my jabra headset in addition to the pioneer headunit/receiver I have in my car. The audio sounds good for an unpredictable amount of time, then intermittently I get muffled, garbled audio quality (both talking and receiving audio) which is HIGHLY ANNOYING! Streaming Stereo bluetooth (music) mysteriously works flawless, however the autoconnect feature is broken. I have to manually pair it with the phone each time I want to stream music.

Took the phone to the genius bar and they said I needed to update my headset & headunit firmware to bluetooth 4.0 as its not compatible. This is contradictory to everything else I've read saying how bluetooth 4.0 is backward compatible. Neither of my bluetooth units have the ability to be firmware updateble, so my only option is to return the phone or wait in the "hopes' that apple will release a firmware update.

Did apple not test bluetooth for iOS 5 / iPhone 4s? RIDICULOUS that there is no "known good" bluetooth compatibility list. Additionally RIDICULOUS I just shelled out $$ for a phone that contains OBVIOUS issues with bluetooth.

It's so annoying my wife and I both have 4's and so do 4 of my friends they all have the bluetooth issue.

So I was eagerly awaiting the 4S and I pre-ordered the first day I could.

But it STILL has the same bluetooth issue. I was ******!!

I love how apple blames everyone else. I went through the same thing with the 4.

When I went into the store they blamed every earpiece. Stating that the 4 was newer hardware and all of the OLD earpieces would have problems because the phone so new.

Will it be fixed with the 5? Who knows!!!

Unless the next phone specifically says that the bluetooth issue has been resolved I'm not buying.

Actually the new Droid is starting to look better and better because I need a phone first.

The Jawbone Era and BluAnts are about the only earpieces I've had any luck with but the range it still pitiful 6-12 feet maybe if you're luck.

My LR2 has a bin right above the radio so it works well in there but it's only inches away from the radio.

If I put the phone in my pocket forget about it I start losing the signal.

**** with Siri work on Bluetooth it's more useful than a speech recognition app with a 40% success rate.

I have a iPhone 3G and my Motorola Bluetooth H700 has the same problem where I can hear the other person but they can't hear me! The problem has to be with the software on the phone. Does anybody have any ideas about this problem? It's annoying now that my Province has hands free law now...

I bought a Samsung HM1700 2 months ago. It worked great on my 3Gs and now with the 4S. I have no issues except for the sound when I'm talking to one friend in particular that always uses his speaker phone. Then the sound is phunny. But it has a fantastic range - I can leave my phone charging in the living room and go outside and make a call, or continue to listen to music.

I finally had enough of the 4S and ditched it for a Samsung Skyrocket. Happy to report bluetooth works flawlessly on my Pioneer DEH-P7000BT headunit as well as my Jabra headset. No garbled muffled sounds, everything is crystal clear. In addition, the Streaming Stereo Bluetooth (music) autoconnect (on the DEH-P7000BT) that was previous broken on the 4S now works great. No more manually pairing every time I want to stream music over bluetooth.

Perhaps the same guy who designed the antenna for the iPhone 4, designed bluetooth in the 4S? 😁
