IPhone 4 Bluetooth Issues

IPhone 4 doesn't allow reasonable range and other issues with bluetooth headset. Fyi, tried with Apple Bluetooth headset which worked perfectly with IPhone 3G & IPhone 3G-S. Issue, you can have IPhone 4 in shirt or pant pocket and bluetooth will disconnect. Also, you can have IPhone 4 inside car and close the door while standing right outside the door and bluetooth disconnects. This never happened with previous models including IPhone 3G-S with IOS 4 installed.

Other bluetooth issues: as others reported - muffled sound quality to person your talking to. Time delays and disconnects with bluetooth Uconnect. IPhone 4 won't let you change between your car audio phone feature back to IPhone 4 without freezing.

I have the same car stereo system. Each time i have to initiate a new bluetooth audio connection at the bluetooth audio --> connections settings. That is happening after i upgrade my iphone 3GS to iOS 4 and also happening with my new iphone 4. It seems there is a problem to remember the specific device when tries to connect again.

I hope this will solve your problem.

Greetings.

OK, I just got an iPhone 4, which is my first smartphone. My previous phone was a 6-year-old "regular" cell phone.

I would like to get a wireless or wired headset for my new iPhone4, but am very confused regarding what to buy. After reading this thread (and other comments on the web), I am wondering whether I should buy anything right now. I would even settle for an old-fashioned wired headset if I could find one that is described as compatible with iPhone4 -- so far I haven't found any.

Please do not tell me to use the uncomfortable headphone-with-mic thing that comes with the iPhone4. That is not what I want. I can't stand those earbuds, they really hurt my ears. And I want a regular headset where the mic sticks out and the earpiece has a loop that goes over ONE ear.

Can anyone please recommend a model of wired or wireless headset that actually works well with iPhone4?

Thank you!

Frankly I think it's baloney that there are problems with the Voyager Pro. I just got one as well after 4 Jawbone Icon replacements, an older Plantronics, etc. and they all have the same issues-poor sound quality, constant disconnects, no range, and the headset battery life is also negatively affected by constantly trying to establish a connection with the phone. Everyone in the Apple store and in their call centers denies there is a problem with the phone's software or Bluetooth chip. I've restored, reset, unpaired and re-paired, not to mention trying now my 6th + headset. Come on Apple-we've all stepped up to the plate to try everything to make Bluetooth work. Your turn.

Not holding my breath. After a lengthy attempt at my local Apple store to prove that the issues are not due to the headset I pulled up this forum and showed the tech and his supervisor these posts. They said, "We don't believe any of that because those people are not techs." Terrific. If I'd wanted to be nasty I would have said the same thing about them. The extensive diagnosis I was told would be done consisted of pairing a bluetooth keyboard to my phone and showing that you could type. This is not diagnosis and does not make you a tech.

I had this posted in another topic but...

I also am having Bluetooth issues. I tried a Jabra Extreme and now am using a Motorola H720. Both will randomly disconnect, have sound quality issues, and completely freak out voice control. I don't think I was having much trouble when I was on 4.0. After upgrading to 4.1 Bluetooth is very unreliable. Is there any way to go back to 4.0?

Well, iOS 4.1 has been out for quite awhile, so here is my take on this
For starter, the muffled voice during incoming calls is mostly not an issue anymore (as far as I can tell)
However, the range of bluetooth on iPhone 4 truly stinks. I would listen Pandora on my Jawbone ICON or Plantronics 925, and the music stream would drop like crazy if I place the phone inside my pant's pocket.

It is a shame, that iPhone 4 is supposed to look great and functionally awesome as well, but its Bluetooth functionality is certainly no match to regular phone like a Motorola Razr (that's the one I had before iPhone).

I'm having similar problem with my iPhone 4 and bluetooth headsets. I have both the Motorola H350 and H500 headsets ... older models, but both worked great with previous iPhone 3G and other cell phones. Though I could sometimes hold up to 10 ft of range while on hold for someone, I'd have to be within a couple feet when I was talking or they couldn't understand me ... I'd become muffled and broken up. I had no problem hearing the person I was talking to. But for the past few weeks my iPhone 4 periodically simply won't connect to either headsets no matter what I do (reboot, remove headsets from iPhone, shut off bluetooth then reboot and then turn it back on again, re-pair the iPhone and headsets, etc). Occassionally, it would seem as though it paired again, but wouldn't actually connect (just got the Apple hourglass beside the headset name).

I was reading a post over at http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/add-bluetooth-to-the-iphone-4-list-of-woe-update d-2x/7588 where the author got a replacement iPhone 4 and bluetooth work fine now (origial post was from July 2010, but there have been 2 updates to the article since then). Has anyone else tried getting a replacement iPhone 4? Are people having the problem with brand a new iPhone 4?

I too am having this issue and it is extremely frustrating. I have had 3 headset, all newer models (2 Motorola [h17 & h17txt and 1 BlueAnt Q2), which randomly disconnect which leaves the headset constantly telling me the phone is connected/disconnected. I tried the headsets on a Windows Mobile phone and Blackberry - neither having any of these issues. I even sold my 16GB IPhone 4 (purchased the day the IPhone 4 was released)and got a 32GB IPhone 4 (3 days ago); no change. The disconnects seem to happen most when I have the phone in my coat or pant pocket, so only 1 to 2 feet from the IPhone. This is extremely fustrating. I sincerely hope that Apple is making some changes in IOS 4.2 that address this issue as otherwise I may be going Android based. Maybe Apple does not care about losing a customer who has purchased more than $20,000 in Apple gear this year alone and averages atleast $8,000.00 a year for the last 5+ years. At least take some responsibility for the issue and work with users to find a solution, as I cannot see myself supporting a company that cannot be honest. Maybe they lost to much money on the free case program and do not want to admit another fault in their product?

Over the weekend I had my iPhone 4 replaced at the Apple store even though I bought mine at Best Buy. I also picked up a new Jawbone Prime. I've gone through 2 different Jawbone Primes and a Jabra Extreme. I had the Prime, exchanged it for the Jabra, and just went back to the Jawbone again (the Jabra was VERY uncomfortable for me!). Both had bluetooth disconnect issues - especially the Jawbone. Hoped having both a new phone and headset would solve the issue, but... nope! It's constantly dropping the connection and picking it back up again and it still has very inconsistent call quality for people I'm talking to. I give up!

I too am having Bluetooth issues with my iPhone 4
I am so disappointed, I use bluetooth almost exclusively while I am working.
I have tried 2 different headsets that worked fine with my old 3G iPhone. Constantly making/breaking the connection. I was ready to crush the phone yesterday while working with the constant "disconnected", "phone 1 connected" messages constantly going off in my ear.
I took a drive in my bluetooth equipped car playing the iPhone 4's iPod and same thing, constantly dropping the signal.

Bummed........

I waited this long to get one and now I have to return it....

From what I have read in this forum there appears to be no help from Apple so it's back to AT&T for a replacement with a 3GS.

Oh well there is $100 Apple loses...

Replaced my i4 on 11/3. Bluetooth worked great and now had song forward and backward that it didn't before. In the past week range went down to 6 feet and song advance quit working. I use backbeat and a rocketfish stereo headset. Both the same. I just talked with applecare and they had me turn off wi-fi. While I was talking to her I put on music and walked upstairs. Worked OK. I ended call and turned on music and started to walk away. I got about 6 feet and it broke up and got worse. This is insane. How can it gradate so quickly. When I updated the old phone to 4.1 this issue resolved. Then it came back little by little. I have no trust that 4.2 will really fix anything.

I'd like to add my experience as I'm having the same issues. Thinking that my headsets were the problem, I've replaced 2 of them and the problem is not going away. I rely on being able to use a headset and this has become increasingly frustrating. The range is horrible and it's hit or miss on whether or not people will be able to hear me when they call or I call them.

On 11/5 I decided to make a genius appointment. I went in and explained the problem and the tech offered me the option of going home and restoring the phone or he would give me a new phone. I opted for the new phone. Before going back home I setup the headset. I made several calls from varying distances from the phone and everything was working fine. Upon going home I hooked up to iTunes to restore from my backup. The new phone was on software version 4.0.1. iTunes prompted me to update the software prior to being able to restore from my backup. I did so and restored the phone. Once again I started having issues with the headset. At this point, I have to imagine it's software related, at least I hope so and also hope that 4.2 will resolve it as this is a huge issue for me.

I may make another appointment this weekend but I don't think there's anything they'll be able to do besides another new phone.

I guess what's annoying me the most is that they don't seem to know what's wrong or they do and aren't addressing it. I was really hoping 4.2 was going to be released yesterday but I guess I'll wait a little longer.
