Problem installing Mac OSX 10.5 on new HDDc

Hello, I needed to replace my HDD and I'm trying to install Leopard on my new blank HDD. I have the install disk that came with my macbook, but it's not working. I insert the install disc and restart the macbook holding down the C key. It starts from the CD. So I choose the language and it gives me message "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. This software annot be installed on this computer" with two options OK, that does nothing, and Restart. My old HDD was the original one, that came with the mac and is broken. The new one is a Samsung SATA 320gb model HM320II/SRA. Reading about the problem in the Apple Support website I found something about updating the firmware, but I'm not sure if it applies to me.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

Your 10.5 must look like

* unless it was prebundled with your Mac, when you bought it from an Authorized Apple Dealer. You can't use a 10.5 disc that came with another Mac.

Also your machine must be older than the 10.5 disc if it has the image pictured above.

Once you make sure you have the correct disc, be sure to format your new hard disk GUID with the Utilities menu -> Disk Utility -> Partition -> Options button in the installer program. The default format won't allow installation of Mac operating systems.

Thanks for the quick response! Actually my message is quite different, it's not specifically about the volume, but it says "cannot be installed on this computer". I have already partioned the HDD using GUID and HFS+, but can't install anyway. =(

Read my post again. If you are using the wrong disc for your computer, or a disc too old for your computer, that's why you get the error.

Thanks for the answer! My install disk is not like this one, it's grey (it was preblundled with my mac). I have already partioned with GUID and HFS+ options. But still not installing. =(

It may need a jumper to be installed. It is also possible you upgraded the firmware past the ability of the install CD to run. The latter scenario I have not ever seen direct evidence of, but it is conceivable.

I've thought about the jumper, but in the manual of the HDD (got at Samsung's website) says that the master config of the HDD is the default (no jumper). Can I install a firmware update booting by the install disc?

looking here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237?viewlocale=pt_BR I couldn't find an update to my model MacBook4,1

Is it possible for you to remove the battery and read the serial number inside the battery bay?
All we need is two digits off the serial number.

It will start with two alphanumeric characrs followed by an 8.
After that 8 should be two more digits. What are they?

Your 10.5 disk that reads MacBook, not MacBook Pro, must also read 10.5.2. No other version of 10.5 on a MacBook disk will work with your machine. Otherwise you need a disk with the label I showed above that reads 10.5.4, or 10.5.6.
