iPhone 6 speaker stops working after I’ve used my airpods

After I’ve used my airpods and taken them out my ear, the speaker that you put your ear to, doesn’t work when making or receiving a phone call.

I also can’t hear any audio when watching a video sent to my or even YouTube through my iPhone loudspeaker.

To be able to hear I either have to tap the speaker button to utilise the loudspeaker or put my airpods back in my ear. I can make a receive calls absolutely fine the conventional way (using the phone as normal) once I reboot my iPhone.

When I swipe up to access Control Centre and tap on music and then source select icon, Iphone is missing from that list “Headphones” are selected even though I don’t have any headphones connected to my device at the time.

I have an iPhone 6 64GB, running iOS 12.1 (16B92)

I've had this issue for a while now before 12.1

I’ have attached the control centre source select list with and without airpods places in my ear.

Please note: once I reboot my phone the phone works well.

please help

Hello Nandeep81,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that after using your AirPods and removing them from your ears, the sound doesn't switch back to the iPhone. After what you have indicated you have tried, I would next suggest unpairing and re-pairing the AirPods with your iPhone. Those steps are included in the following support article:

Get help with your AirPods

Specifically:

Go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the icon next to your AirPods. Then tap Forget This Device.
Put your AirPods in the case and close the lid. Wait 15 seconds, then open the lid.
Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash amber a few times, then flash white.
Place your AirPods close to your device. Follow the steps on your iOS device's screen.

Best regards.

Nandeep81,

Since re-pairing the AirPods hasn't worked, then the next step would to reinstall iOS.

Let's first make sure you have a good backup for your iPhone first. This article will walk you through doing the backup.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, you can then reinstall iOS. You will want to follow the instructions from "Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again". The key point in the process is step 4, you want to choose "Update" in that step and it should reinstall without erasing your data, but just in case, that's why we did the backup.

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers.

Joseph_Sthanks for your arvice.

inhave completed that process, but the problem still persists.

i have also decided to do a clean install without any of my data, such as a factory reset. But again the problem is still there.

Since i have done a complete software reset, im thinking, could this be a software issue that affects certain iPhone 6’s since the roll out of iOS 12?
