Magic Keyboard with Numerical Keypad
The center bottom key on the numerical keypad indicates the . (dot) and , (comma) symbol. It misconfigured as the . (dot), but how can it be changed to the , (comma)?

Bingo!
When I set the keyboard preferences to Danish, then the comma and dot symbols can be used alternatively with the option key.
Problem solved. (Not sure why it has to be Danish, but that seems to be the one which works...)

FWIW, The Danish Extended Keyboard has both. Perhaps others.
Speaking of, the French, Italian, and Portuguese keyboards also have both symbols on the key.
Sorry for my typing error: The keyboard has the key configured (not misconfigured) to a . (dot) My problem is that I have no idea how to change this to the second option of a , (comma) as indicated as the symbol on the keystroke.
Thank you for the responses and Yes, the middle key of the bottom row of the keypad does have both characters on my keyboard. Judging by the responses I have received on my post, I believe this is not normally the case, so I will return to the Mac sales shop and get them to clarify this. It is odd as nowhere on the web documentation, the comma, dot key symbol is visible or described.
I am using English language , the keyboard is Netherlands version. However the plot thickens as today, I took the keyboard to the iMac premium seller shop and on their Macbook the two symbols can be used by pressing the option key with the symbol key. However that does still not work on my Mac. I'm still at a loss.
There is no comma on the "period" key on the Numeric Keypad.
My Magic keyboard only has the dot (.) on the middle key of the bottom row of the keypad. Are you sure yours has both characters?
It is not misconfigured, it may not be to you liking but it is NOT misconfigured. You cannot change the functionality of the key. Please look on the keyboard to see what you are missing.
You cannot change the period key on the 10 keyboard to a comma. It is hardwired, you will need to use the comma key to the right of the M key on the main keyboard.
Have you checked to see if the Fn key has any affect on which character is used?
Yes, I did try and no effect at all. In fact I tried the combination with all possible keys, but unable to get the comma with this key.
What language are you using? It is something that would only show up if you are using Dansk?
What language input source were they using in System Preferences > Keyboard > Input Sources? Or do you know?
I am using ABC extended, but do not know what they were using.
