4K Apple TV won’t connect to internet

My new 4K Apple TV says I’m not connected to the internet. All my other devices beg to differ. What do I do?

how is it connected ?

some routers keep 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi as separate networks and if the appletv use another one than the other devices

it could be the router needs to be setup to bridge them

if ones router is setup to use MAC address filtering the MAC address of the appletv needs to be added to the positive list

Wow, I didn’t understand half of what you just said. My router does put out a separate 5 and 2.5 networks. You can joineither independently and I tried to set up ATV with the option “use your device’” and that would not work either. I have tried to connect to both and both say ‘your network is not connected to the intetnet’. So I assume from that that the ATV sees the networks but thinks they are not online.

Thanks for your help

Then it is not properly connected to the network.

If on wifi try ethernet

Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - network)

Ensure router has port 123 open (refer to manual if unsure)

To see a current status of the network get a report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise and nearby networks

Test on another network
