I am a neophyte when it comes to Apple/Ipad and I thought I was doing it correctly! I thought it was going to synch all 400 of my music files with my Windows laptop since I couldn't see them in the ITUNES program and yes I answered yes to the synch and remove from my Ipad. But they are nowhere to be found on my computer, so is there anything I can do to restore them? Or find them on my laptop?

You cannot sync music from an iOS device to a computer, only from a computer running iTunes to an iOS device. And if you have an empty iTunes music library on your computer when you sync it will update the iOS device with what is in iTunes on your computer, in your case nothing. If the music was purchased from iTunes just log in to iTunes on your computer using the Apple ID and password that was used to purchase the music. Then go to the Account menu in iTunes and "Check for downloads." This will redownload your iTunes-purchased music to iTunes on your computer. You can then sync it to your iOS device, or just download it to the iOS device using the same process.

Gasp! Horrible news! I knew I shouldn't have said OK to the remove from device prompt!! Thank you for your sad reply....
Synched IPad music with laptop and all my music has been deleted!
