iMac Late 2009 27" won't install Mavericks or higher OS

I tried to upgrade my 2009 iMac to Sierra or Mavericks, had a couple of boot errors then.

I checked with Apple Service Diagnostics, every test passed.

The original HD Drive cable was switched with the OWC thermal sensor cable, i did try the install with the original cable also. This is what the error log said:

I'll attach two error logs, one for the failed OS Sierra Install, second for Mavericks.

any guess, what is wrong here?

To clarify Mike Sombrio's questions,

this iMac had a professional new Setup, started with a legal SnowLeopard Install, update to a legal Lion Version (had some hickups in the installing process), then updated to MacOS Mountain Lion, legal version as well, this is where the possible System Updates end, any version newer than Mountain Lion will cause panic errors and sudden restart behaviour (unresolved cause - what could you guys read out of the logs?).

As mentioned in my post, i did a complete Test with Apple Service Diagnostics, every Test passed, no Hardware is connected, that could cause problems (white apple usb keyboard and whit apple mouse with scrollball).

Connected 10.8.5 to the Store directly, downloaded the installers from the Mac App Store and started the Install right after downloading. No other software involved, no extra Hardware. The RAM shouldn't be incompatible, RAM test from ASD passed every test, OS mountain lion, lion and snow leopard, did work, so why shoul ram be incompatible from mavericks up?

Or do you read a RAM Failure in the logs? That's why i ask, i can't interpret the kernel panics and errors in the log.

I can't look into the iMac at the moment, gave this iMac as a gift to my mother (who lives somewhere else than me). I wanted to install Sierra, to keep her somehow up to date an d give her the possibility to browse the internet without flaws. The RAM should be mac certified, as the pre-owner never bought anthing else, i guess those RAM are Crucial or Corsair, but i will have a look at it the next time i visit them. We both, the preowner as well as me, use apple computers for more than 25 years now, so we're both not new to the apple world, but couldn't solve the Install problem. I did work as Mac system administrator for about 5 years, had contact to legitimate apple service providers and could get a hand on copys of Service Diagnostics. any more questions?

Hello miniPedro,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are having an issue upgrading your computer to Mavericks or Sierra. You are also getting error logs indicating a panic. I would recommend taking a look at this support article to resolve the panic notices.

If your Mac spontaneously restarts or displays a message that it restarted or shut down because of a problem

Best regards.

A couple questions. Where did you get Mavericks and Sierra? If from somewhere other than Apple itself there's no telling what may be wrong with those installers. Secondly what brand is the 32Gb of third party ram? Was it in use before trying to upgrade the OS? Have you considered erasing the hard drive using the original Snow Leopard disc, installing SL upgrading to 10.6.8 and then taking the steps to upgrade to High Sierra from the Mac App Store?

That really clarifies nothing that I asked. Where did you get Mavericks and Sierra? What brand is the memory? Was it working with that ram before the upgrades? Why are you fooling with all of those incremental steps when you can install High Sierra from the Mac App Store directly from Mountian Lion? How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

From the panic logs I suspect incompatible ram, thats why I asked about it.

Looking at the panic logs I don't see an obvious software or hardware issue, that leads me to suspect ram as it is often the cause of kernel panics. The fact that you are reluctant to disclose the brand leads me to believe it's some bargain basement brand that doesn't work well in Macs.

The other issue could be corrupt or faulty installers. Unless you had previously downloaded those from Apple they shouldn't be available to you. There are other sources to get Mac system software but they're illegal and not reliable, you don't know what you're going to get with them. Apple Service Diagnostics isn't readily available to end users, if you're getting software from sources other than Apple there's really nothing we can do here to help you.
