Compressor 4.4.2 locks-up/crashes

I have the same problem. I have a late 2014 iMac Retina. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program with the recommended software. Compressor will process files directly from the HD but not from FCPX.

I just got off the phone with Apple support. They verified there was a problem on my machine. They will be reviewing the diagnostic files from my iMac and get back to me. I suggest that you contact them since these may be machine specific problems.

I was on the phone with them on Saturday. There is still no response from their lab. You should insist that they do the same for your machine. Apparently the support staff at Apple do not monitor these posts. They were unaware of the problems with Compressor that have been reported.

Same problem here. Started about 4 months ago. Will handle a file directly, but send to Compressor no. Once I start "batch" it locks up every single time. I have tried different machines, different hard drives. Dumped cache and preferences. Tried different files, different user names. Every single thing I could find recommended but nothing works. On a 2018 MacBook Pro Compressor 4.4.3.

Had been using it successfully on a 2014 MacBook Pro then it stopped working. I can't accurately say whether it started with a particular version upgrade. Currently trying to use it on a 2018 MacBook Pro 15inch touch bar with no luck.

Apple support still has not solved the problem. They got it to work on my iMac by having me install the OS, FCPX and Compressor on a new partition on my HD. They have promised to continue working on a solution.

I installed the latest Cinema Grade update v1.0.25 (396) and all appears well again now. One of the release notes for this version specifically mentioned the issue:

* Fixed rendering with Apple Compressor

Side note: I wasn't even using Cinema Grade on the files I was sending to Compressor.

Glad I could be of help. It's disturbing that these software companies do not fully test their products before releasing them to their customers. This is a bug that should have shown up in development. It is also curious that none of the reviews mentioned it. If you were not using Cinema Grade, why did the installation of the latest version solve your rendering problem?

I have Cinema Grade installed but not using it on this particular batch of videos. So the issue occurs whether you have Cinema Grade in use on the timeline or not when sending to Compressor.

i.e. Just having it installed is enough to create the issue sending to Compressor from Final Cut Pro X.

Having said that, Apple released another security updates in regards with compressor and as did cinema grade.

Everything now works flawlessly.

Plug-ins have to be installed separately. FCPX does not install them automatically. Deleting and reinstalling both programs (FCPX and Compressor) should solve the problem. Otherwise, I suggest that you contact Apple Support. They are very helpful.
