Read receipts

Read receipts for messages you send will show up on the other person's phone.

If you want to see read receipts for messages you are receiving, the other person needs to enable them.

Keep in mind this only works for iMessage (messages between iPhones/blue bubbles). It will not work for SMS (green bubbles).

Okay, so you have turned on Read Receipts on your device. This means, that when your friend sends you a message and you read it, their phone should display "Read <time stamp> instead of Delivered. If they are not seeing that, what troubleshooting have they done on their device? You will not see Read on your device unless they have turned on Read Receipts.

Okay, so is this other person's phone an iPhone? Are you sending/receiving iMessages?

When you turn Read Receipts on, you will not see them, the person that you have sent the iMessage to will see them. If you are sending SMS, to non-iOS devices, they will not see a Read Receipt. Those only work for iMessages.
