ios 12.1.1 Facetime icon within messages app is grayed out

Updated my iPhone 5s to ios 12.1.1. In the messages app, when clicking on the '>' next to the contacts name, there are three options displayed . Audio, Facetime, and 'i' (info). The Facetime icon is now grayed out. The icon was present and working perfectly with 12.1. I have tried all the usual Facetime restart stuff(toggle off, sign out/back in) still no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

It is to be noted that my Facetime app is working and if I drill down into the contact details via the messages app, the option to Facetime the contact is available there. It is the grayed out Facetime icon in the messages contact name/header that has me stumped.

Thx. I guess what I meant to say in my original post is that the Facetime icon is faded out and non-functional. I see the color of the other icons is gray, however the Facetime icon is almost transparent-like in appearance. If you click on the icon, nothing happens. Again, if you drill down into the contact via the 'i' icon, you can see the Facetime options there and those icons are functional and Facetime works. I hope this made my issue a little clearer.

Huh. Here still with iOS 12.1 I have the opposite affect. It's non-faded, hot-tappable in every conversation even if any or all addresses are non-FaceTime-able even for SMS short codes and does in fact initiate a FaceTime call whether FaceTime-connectable or not! Could they have chilled it out in iOS 12.1.1 because it's not completely baked? In any case, I'm confident that the imminent iOS 12.1.2 will fix it.

bazilh - did you end up udating to the 12.1.2 and having this issue fix? I have the same issue, but mine was fine with the 12.1.1 and when updated to 12.1.2 it was fine for a short period of time (didn't really notice it wasnt though) and now it is grayed out. There is another thread in support about the same issue. No answers yet. Didn't see your name pop up in that thread so was wondering if you had a fix for it. Thanks!
