AirPod case and magnet

Can I place my AirPods on a magnet, such as those used in Car phone mounts? I want to use a magnet so my case doesn’t get lost when I’m driving. Keeping it in my pocket is inconvenient with the seatbelt. Also it would be connvenient for charging. I know the magnet works, my question is if this could damage the AirPods, like a magnet can damages or erases credit cards and thumb drives (I think)
