Prolific USB to serial connector not working after Mojave upgrade

Hi,

I have a Prolific USB to serial connector (PL2303) and it was working fine with High Sierra, but stopped working after I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mojave.

I suspect this might be related to drivers, but I can't find the correct ones to use. Does anybody else have this problem?

Thanks.

... they don't show up in the /dev directory, while they did with High Sierra.

Do you know where they install? Presumably the device you're using needs to find them in /dev. Can you just move them there?

What appears in System Information > Extensions? If I look at a High Sierra Mac mine is shown as follows

64 but is good but "Not Signed" is going to be a problem for Mojave...

Did you read and apply the following: https://plugable.com/2017/10/27/how-to-fix-extensions-blocked-by-gatekeeper-in-macos-10-13-high-sierra/

I have a few USB to serial converters and I know at least one of them uses the Prolific chipset (and presumably uses the same driver). I have not tried to use them with Mojave yet, but please read the above and determine if it works for you. There really ought to be no change to that procedure for Mojave.

Thanks.

I'll have to determine what do to about that. It might be a while, but I'll let you know.

Mojave implemented even more tamperproofing measures "for your security" of course, in an effort to protect users from themselves. For experienced users it amounts to overkill.

In the meantime I'd encourage you to expand your search to include your particular application for that converter. Interest in these things has diminished to a tiny niche. For example, I use mine to reprogram handheld calculators, and even they have fallen from common use.

Good Day;

I have three USB to Serial adapters that I have used for amateur radio devices. I have had one Prolific usb to serial adapter that has worked for years with no issue, starting with OSX snow leopard. Other prolific chipset devices that are newer I have had many issues with and finally gave up on them after an OSX upgrade where they ceased to work. I have found that usb to serial adapters that use the FTDI chipset work with no issues. They are as inexpensive as the prolific devices, and can be found on ebay or other places. I have used the single and dual port with equal success. The devices are used with parallels running windows 10, under Mojave, if that is any help to you.

Regards
