Siri voice not downloading on iPhone

Trying to download a new Siri voice on my iPhone and it shows stuck on "Downloading" with a message at the bottom that "The Siri voice will take effect when downloaded. 0% complete.."

Been in this state for hours.

Anyone seen this/found a fix?

Managed to fix this without a fac. reset. Apparently the accent is now tied to the language you are using so you have to change the language setting to Enclish (x) where X is the accent you want to use. NOTHING else worked for me, not restarting, not turning on airplane mode to reset the network chip, not even factory resetting.

  1. Select "Settings"
  2. Select "Siri & Search"
  3. Select "Language" <= Select the language you want. I live in the US and selected "English (United Kingdom)"
  4. Go back to the "Siri & Search"
  5. Select "Siri Voice"
  6. Select "British" <= i.e. if it was your choice in the "Language" section and the download will begin.

You will have to download the other gender voice too. Siri does not automatically download both the gender voices.

Hope this helps.

This is the solution I found (I'm under English (United Kingdom) normally.

I was wanting to download Siri (female) Irish because I thought it would be nice, but it was hanging at 0%

I set the language from English (United Kingdom) to English (Ireland).

NOW when I try to download Siri voice (Ireland), it works.

Then I just turn the language back to English (United Kingdom). Job done.

I have found the solution, though it should hav been explained in a clearer manner earlier in this thread (maybe it is?). First you have to choose Siri's language, then choose Siri's voice to match that previous language selection. The download seems too stall only in the situation in which the two languages selections are not matched. I don't know why it is this way, but it is. Obviously, this has an effect on spelling, especially between U.S. English and U.K. English (in my case). I hope this resolves the issue for everyone.

I think some of you may be missing the point of the thread. We know how it’s supposed to work. The instructions provided above are again asserting that the language of the phone must match the accent of Siri which is not true. You can choose the accent you want on the language you want - at least with English that’s true.

The problem being reported is that when we select the accent language, it stalls at 0%. Nothing seems to get it going. Some have reported that a factory reset didn’t even do it.

I’m happy to report that the latest update to 12.1.2 fixed the issue for me. I went in, Irish was unselected and the download progress was not showing. I selected it and it downloaded to 100%.

Yes, you have this exactly right. I did find that after I got the UK accent to download I went back and switched my language back to US English and then went back to the accents to see that it changed the accent back to US but this time I could tap on the UK accent and it completed the download. So now I have the Language set to US English and the accent set to UK Female.

Hi Scott Dillon,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're trying to download a new voice for Siri, but it seems to be stuck at no progress on the download. I can see why you'd reach out for assistance with this; I'd like to help. I'd suggest using the following steps to close the Settings app, then restart your iPhone: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After restarting make sure you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal and try again to change Siri's voice. If you continue to have trouble, can you let me know if you've successfully changed the voice for Siri in the past?

Which iOS version is installed on your iPhone?

Best Regards.

Running 12.1.2 on 6S+ and my IPad Pro. I finally got the English US to download the British voice. It took resetting switching languages to English uk then switching back, downloading the British voice switching back to American accent then switching from the female voice to the male Voice then switching back to the British voice to get a British male voice. Still no success with my iPad Pro doing the same unreasonable steps. WTF!?

That is not my experience. I currently have English (US) as my language and English (UK) male as my Siri voice and it’s working fine. I used to have Irish Male Siri with US English and it worked fine too but my last IOS update put me back to UK Siri and when I switch back to Irish, it stalls at 0% as this thread describes. If the two settings were required to be together, there wouldn’t be two settings.
