Restoring information from current iphone to new device

I purchased a new iphone 6s from local ATT store this week. I have both iCloud and iTunes backups. I will be moving the Sim card to new phone then activate it. I'm sure first step will be to update iOS to latest version to match one I have now. I want to replicate all the apps and their data to the new phone. Two of most important types data are my text messages and photos. I know iCloud will restore my photos but will I need to restore from backup in iTunes to get my messages back?

Hi starbux48,

It sounds like you're wanting to make sure all your data moves over to your new device. I know how important it is to make sure that your content moves over seamlessly, and I want to help.

Your Messages will be either included in your backup for iCloud or iTunes, or can be synced using Messages in iCloud.

You can see if Messages for iCloud is enabled by going to Settings > [your_name] > iCloud > Messages.

You'll only need to restore one backup, being from iCloud or iTunes, to get all your content to move over.
