App Store & iTunes Gift Card for Apple Merchandise

I was given App Store & iTunes gift card thinking that I can purchase AirPods with it, but I am unable to redeem them online for store purchases. Is there anything I can do? The sender isn't able to return/exchange the gift card, and I have no use for them in the iTunes/App Store.
