Sharpening a photo

Recently switched from iPhoto to Photos. The sharpen function in iPhoto is much stronger and sharper than the same function in Photos (even though Photos has three sharpen functions). Do others find this to be the case? Is there a way to sharpen in Photos that delivers a similar "highly sharp" result as in iPhoto? Am I missing something?

Thank you,

The Sharpen tool in Photos is indeed less pronounced than in iPhoto.

Have you used all three sliders go the tool? The default settings do not change much. I am only seeing an effect with the intensity slider at 100% and the "fall-off slider also at a high value.

Usually I am using the "Definition" adjustment to make the image look sharper. It will help, if the photo is slightly unsharp.

The problem with the adjustments in Photos is, that none of them can be brushed in locally. If we just want to touch up the eyes of a person to sharpen them, we have to sharpen the complete photo, and thus sharpen the wrinkles and as well, instead of being able to apply skin smoothing. Photos adjustment tools are still very basic. I am using Luminar 3 as aphotot editing extension to give me more control over the adjustments.
