Sudden Latency on only ONE GB project - cannot fix!

Hi there, folks. I hope someone can help me because I have tried everything. I'm working a MacBook Air and running Mohave 10.14.1 and Garageband 10.3.2.

I am working on several projects at once but suddenly this one project will not let me record any more vocals or guitar without a HORRIBLE split second of latency that I cannot fix for the life of me.

Honestly, I've tried it all: reboot GB, reboot Mac, unplug mic or guitar and plug back in, make sure all effects are off the new track......I'm not using bluetooth headphones.....I don't understand and it's driving me crazy! I can't think of or find anything else that's causing this. I can go into another project and record a new track WITHOUT latency.

And this particular project that has the problem is not even that big. I'm only using like 5 tracks and trying to add a 6th.

Holy cow I am at my wits end!

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Please oh pretty please.

Unfortunately, it is not the case in this situation. I did not use Pitch Correction.

the only other thought, especially since you say it's only a few tracks, is to recreate the project in a new file.

save each track's setting as a preset in the library, if you've made any sort of changes to the track, like effects, etc. you could just do them as temp settings "Track1", "Track2", etc

select and copy all the regions in track 1, close the project, create a new one, create the same type of track you used, apply your preset and paste in the regions.

save the project and repeat the process for copying the other 4 tracks into the new project.

PITA for sure, but it will hopefully shake out whatever gremlin is lurking in the original project

Just another update - this does seem to have "Fixed" the problem, as expected.

wonderful, glad to hear you're 'back-in-business'!

Lesson learned. Don't start tweaking until you're pretty sure you're done recording, for fear of having this happen.

things like this are rare, but that is still good advice (and for pitch correction in-particular); there are three separate stages to making a good production, and keeping them separate is a very good idea:

  1. recording
  2. mixing
  3. mastering

best of luck with the rest of your project(s)

have you used pitch correction on any of the tracks? sometimes that can cause an incredible amount of latency (and turning it back off doesn't correct the issue).

it doesn't happen all the time, but when it does the solution was to create a new track, do not turn on pitch correction, and drag the recorded region(s) into the new track (and delete the old one)

Another good idea, sir. Thank you for that suggestion. I just moved the tracks over into a new project per your thoughts.

I expect this will work fine, but I cannot record right now as it is late here. But as soon as I get the chance, I will do so. I will also come back here and let folks know, for future reference.

Thanks again, HangTime!

Have to assume i played with something I shouldn't have that caused this problem. Lesson learned. Don't start tweaking until you're pretty sure you're done recording, for fear of having this happen.

Thanks again for you help!
