Apple Watch/ Water

I have a brand new apple watch. Less than 3 months old. Never have I used it while in the water. I was in the pool for less than 10 minutes and when I got out, the watch wouldn't read my fingerprints/ touchscreen wouldn't work. Then it shut down completely. Tried charging it with no luck for the past 4 days while I was out of town. It gets really warm during this process, but isn't showing anything on the screen. Water damage is what I suspect, but wondering if this is covered.
