Tip of headphone jack jammed in iPhone headphone port

Today I was using an AUX cable with my iPhone, but when I removed it, the tip of the plug was stuck in the port and wouldn’t come out. It won’t fall out if I try to knock it loose, and obviously the headphone port is far too small and tight to get anything in to pry it out. I need to get the broken piece out since now the port is useless and the phone has no sound either since it thinks headphones are plugged in.

After researching the problem further I was on the point of going to the Genius Bar like you said since many of the solutions online involved using glue and such which may have damaged the port or even the phone itself. The only plausible DIY solution I found said just to use the open end of a pen ink cartridge, but the pen I tried didn’t hold onto the plug enough to pull it out. As a last ditch effort before giving up and going to Apple I found a pen that was the same type they used in the video and it worked. It turns out that only BIC Round Stic pens (shown below) work for this fix. Fortunately this type of pen is fairly common, so fixing the problem is simple.
