How to save offline emails

After cancelling an email account all emails from that account went offline, and because they are offline I'm not able to save them on my mac. I have tried exporting and then importing the mailbox but the messages that come up after the import are different from the ones on the offline mailbox. Please help!

Recreate that account temporarily.

In Mail, create one or more mailboxes under “On my Mac”.

Copy the desired messages from the account mailboxes to the On my Mac ones.

Then you can remove the email account and the copied messages will stay where they are: “On my Mac”.

Wow! Thank you so much! Your Second Method solved the issue! I had already tried the First Method and it did not work. For some reason exporting and importing did not work even after several attempts but importing straight from the ~/Library/Mail/V6 did work! Here is what I did by applying your Second Method:

  • File/Import Mailboxes/Apple Mail
  • I chose the mailbox in question under ~/Library/Mail/V6
  • Voila! It worked! A folder was automatically created to "On My Mac" with the offline emails.

Thank you so much!!!!! Lots of gratitude!!!!!!!

You can export and save all your Apple Mail mailboxes data items using the help of below mentioned steps:-

First Method: Export mailboxes and Save Offline Email Data

  1. Choose one or more mailboxes, and then select Mailbox > Export Mailbox.
  2. Select an entirely new folder or create a new folder, then click Choose. Mail exports the mailboxes as .mbox packages. If you previously exported a mailbox, Mail doesn’t overwrite the existing .mbox file; it creates a new .mbox file, such as My Mailbox 3.mbox.

Second Method:-

You can go directly to the folder where Mail saves its data through the Finder and duplicate it to store a copy elsewhere. Inside the Finder, menu Go > Go to Folder and then paste this path:

~/Library/Mail/V5

And the last option you may go for some reliable and trustworthy 3rd party application that might be available in the apple mail backup.

Let me know if this was helpful. Thanks
