I just got a iPhone x from a friend of a friend and I can't get passed the activation lock help

What do I do

If it's locked to the previous owner's account you will have to ask that person to remove the phone from their account : Turn off Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

Return the phone and get your money back if your friend does not know the password. If you can't get the correct password from the original owner you own a doorstop.
