MacOS Mojave
When I upgraded to Mojave, the boot drive (regular hard drive) was automatically formatted to APFS. Do I need APFS format, or can I use the normal Journaled Apple format? If so, is there a way to accomplish this?
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference to kick off June 10 at 10 a.m. PDT with Keynote address
The Keynote will be available to stream on apple.com, the Apple Developer app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple YouTube channel. On-demand playback will be available after the conclusion of the stream.

Apple is migrating over to APFS. So you might as well remain there. Eventually it will be necessary for you to run that on your Mac anyway.

Thanks for your reply. This was helpful. I use Alsoft's Disk Warrior to maintain my drives but it is not yet capable of running on APFS yet.
Personally I don't see that as a valid reason to fallback to HFS+.
Right! I will not attempt changes and just wait for Alsoft to include this format! Thanks again.
