MacOS Mojave

When I upgraded to Mojave, the boot drive (regular hard drive) was automatically formatted to APFS. Do I need APFS format, or can I use the normal Journaled Apple format? If so, is there a way to accomplish this?

Apple is migrating over to APFS. So you might as well remain there. Eventually it will be necessary for you to run that on your Mac anyway.
