brand new 2018 MacBook Pro and iMovie keeps crashing

iMovie lets me work on my movie for about 30 seconds before it freezes up and my only option is to reboot my whole machine. I am new to iMovie, is my movie too long? 30 min? do I have too many files loaded in the media section? What is causing it to freeze up so often?

Hi,

Your issue is not related to the length of your movie or the number of files, unless possibly if you have a massive movie of 3-4 hours duration with hundreds of clips.

Try opening iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and selecting to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. That often will solve issues.

If no luck, try creating a new project and putting different media in it. See if the problem goes away.

If still no luck, try booting up your computer in Safe Mode. See the Help menu for instructions. Once everything has loaded, immediately shut down your computer and start up on normal mode. See if that solves it.
