Using iMac as external display

I currently have a MacBook 2017 Retina, and was wondering if it is possible to connect to an iMac late 2013 so the iMac acts as an external display? Apparently the USB-C port on the MacBook is not thunderbolt compatible so is there any other way? Thanks in advance

New 27" iMac as an external display? I just saw the announcement today (8/4/20) for the new iMac and am hoping that awesome 5K retina display can be used as an external display for a MacBook Pro. I see the USB-C port there, but it is unclear whether this is supported again or not. Thanks!

Connecting New MacBook to 2017 iMac I'd like to use my 2017 iMac as a display for my 2021 MacBook Pro. I have connected the two with a thunderbolt to a USB-c and I can not for the life of me figure out why it isn't working. I looked online and think its connected the correct way. Is this even possible? thanks

using iMac as display Hi. I have a 2011 27inch iMac with thunderbolt port and wish to connect my 2016 Macbook with USB-C (not Thuderbolt 3) port to it in order to use the iMac as a monitor. Is it possible and if so which adapter do I need? tried the apple thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and no luck. Thanks
