Upgrading an old 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 4 core to a 1,2 - 8 Core will 10.10 run on it?

I have brought out of mothballs my old 2006 Original dual - dual core 2.66GHz Mac Pro and will be upgrading it to the dual quad core 3.0GHz and add 32Gb Ram I had run it with OSX 10.7 prior to this but the hard drive quit and I just stored it away. Now with new HD's and CPU's and Ram will it work with 10.10? If it will where can I get a copy since it is no longer supported.

Mac Pro

There's no such model as a MacPro1,2. If you meant a MacPro2,1 (8 core, ~2007), then that tops out at 10.7.5. More recent OS X releases require a Mac Pro model with the EFI64 64-bit EFI or later, and the first one of those was the MacPro3,1 model. The older models have EFI32, and there's no particular path to upgrade the firmware and hardware in those models to something newer, short of swapping out the entire system for a newer Mac Pro. The Mac Pro 2010 and later models when configured with a Metal-capable graphics controller are supported on Mojave, if you're inclined to rummage some hardware.

Feel free to rummage around the 'net for the various other folks that have asked variations of this same Mac Pro upgrade question, and you'll find that the answer remains "no". There's no tweak, no upgrade, no replacement firmware.

If you're going to want to continue to work with a Cheesegrater on newer releases of macOS, then you'll best want the 2010 or later model, and with Metal graphics.

Going rate for the Mac Pro 2010 model (MacPro5,1) looks to be ~US$400 to US$600, though retrofitting a Metal-capable graphics controller will usually add to that purchase.

These older Mac Pros, 1.1 and 2.1 cannot officially run any higher OS than Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5.

If you managed to upgrade any hardware/ firmware to make your 1.1 be a 2.1 it would still not be able to run Yosemite 10.10.5.

When Apple moved on from Lion to Mavericks, and subsequent OS's they need the Mac to have a 64Bit EFI in order for the OS to run. The Mac Pro's 1.1 and 2.1 only have 32Bit EFI so cannot boot those later OS's.

You can search the internet for hacks to make this possible............. tread carefully.

Ebay buy a bootable DVD disc Mac 10.10 Yosemite....

There is seldom a reason to purchase a third-party and potentially sketchy macOS DVD—and one that will not address the old-hardware limitations being discussed here, too—as it’s possible to build a bootable USB device (for free) using a local Mac...

Here are the Apple instructions for building a bootable installer:

Most anything that can run Yosemite (10.10) can also run the newer El Capitan (10.11), and here is the official Apple download for El Capitan:

It should read:

"Upgrading Hardware on an old 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 4 Core to a 2,1 8 Core, Will OS X 10.10 run on it?"

Sorry for all the confusion

Some have said that it should but other say it won't So We will find out if it is possible, May need to upgrade the video card as well. Add an internal fan to help keep everything nice and cool. Also I will be using 4 500GB SSDs.
