Final Cut Pro Custom Transitions Not Appearing?

Hi, I have been trying to download a custom transition, but even after following all the steps, it refuses to show up in FCPX. I believe I have done everything correctly, including restarting it, so if anyone is able to troubleshoot the problem, it would be so appreciated.

  1. Open the Movies folder. I already had a "Motion Templates" folder, so it automatically had the ".localized" extension.

2.Enter the Motion Templates folder. I did not have the below folders, so I created all of them. Each single one has the ".localized" extension.

3.Create a category folder within the Transitions folder. From what I read, this did not have to be ".localized". I named my category folder "Custom"

4.Download the transitions and copy them into the Category Folder.

I then restart Final Cut Pro, but nothing appears, not even the Category folder.

Everything that is required in the Transition is there, so maybe it's just my setup? Do I need to extract anything? Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!!

Check to make sure that the titles are NOT "themed".

Open the .moti files in a Text editor (text only).

Search for:

<template>

<theme>Theme Name Here</theme>

</template>

You have two options:

1) you can delete the <template> tag section -- make absolutely sure that the next tag occupies the same line as <template> formerly did! (It should be: <build></build>)

2) you can create a folder inside your Custom (category) folder with the *exact name* you find in the <theme> tag and place the entire Template folders inside.

The hierarchy will be ~/Movies/Motion Templates/Titles/Category/Theme/Template/

Base Correction is not a Transition, it's a Title (ends with .moti). Move the Custom Folder to the Titles folder (move everything at once). If Look Grade is not a Title (.moti) check its file type:

.motn is a Generator

.motr is a Transition

.moef is an Effect

The Compositions folder is for non-FCPX template Motion projects (default save location).

My concern is that you state you did NOT have the folders Transitions, Generator, Titles, Effects already. That means something is not right.

I'd use "FCS Remover" (free app) from Digital Rebellion to wipe FCPX from the system (your templates and projects will not be touched.) I'd copy that custom template somewhere safe. Delete the Motion Templates folder and all of its contents. Then reinstall FCPX from scratch from the App Store.

Installing FCPX automatically creates the folders you say you didn't see. That bothers me that you didn't see them.
