Headphone shows 'not plugged in' in Window 10

Dear All,

I have an abnormal phenomenon with the headphone and don't know the reason, could someone help me?

I install MacOS and Win 10 on my macbook pro 2013, when i log in to Win 10 i cannot use my headphone. In the Sound Panel, the headphone shows 'not plugged in' although i had already plugged the headphone into the jack.

When i shut down and log in to MacOS, my headphone works fine in MacOS, after that i restart again and log in to Win 10, the headphone works OK. But when i shut down and restart to Win 10, the headphone will not work and display 'not plugged in' again. I see that when i shut down, the macbook not remember the connection of headphone. It seems the MacOS affect to hardware in Win 10.

Can someone help me on this issue? I reset PRAM but can not fix this problem.

My macbook pro is 15" retina, early 2013 model.

Mac OS: High Sierra

BIOS mode: Legacy

Thanks a lot!

Your MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) - Technical Specifications has a

Audio

  • Stereo speakers
  • Dual microphones
  • Headphone port
    • Headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack)
    • Support for Apple iPhone headset with microphone

This is a combination port. The faint red light indicates that the port is outputting Digital, rather than Analog signals. You have two options

  • Uninstall/Re-install the Audio driver. The re-installation should reset the port, or,
  • Insert the headphone jack slowly a few times, which allows the internal microswitch to be tripped, causing Analog output to be re-enabled. Please use the BC driver, not a standard WHQL driver.

Hi Loner,

I use TRS (headphones-only). Few months ago, i didn't meet this issue with this headphone. Maybe, the update of win 10 or MacOS cause this issue, I doubt when the window boots, it doesn't wake up the headphone. Now, if i want to use headphone in win 10, i must boot to MacOS, after that restart to win 10. If i shut down macbook and restart to win 10, the issue will come back. I tried to reset SMC but still not solve the problem. Do you have any another advice?

I have checked shut down and boot into win 10 many times and the red bright now turn off but the problem still happen.

  • I uninstall/re-install the audio driver of Bootcamp many times but still not solve the problem.
  • I insert the jack a few times but still not OK. I also open the back cover and clean pins of connector on flex circuit.

Very surprise that the headphone works normally in MacOS, the problem only happen in Win 10. In my opinion, the boot loader of MacOS affect to Win 10. Hope to have another solutions.

Hi Loner,

I knew the root cause of the issue, I installed 'Macs Fan' program to control fan speed base on temperature of CPU and it also affects to CPU speed. When i turn off the Macs Fan program or turn on it in 'Auto' mode, the CPU speed run normally. If I set manually Macs Fan program, the speed of CPU will slow down after few minute run in heavy duty. I will inform to supplier team of Macs Fan to fix this one.
