How to hang up after leaving phone screen with X-R

I have a new iphone XR and if I leave the phone screen to use another app while on the call I can't get back to that screen to hang up. If the other party doesn't hang up then the line is left open. Can anyone help?

After you have left the phone screen to use another app, simply tap the green bar at the top of the screen to return to the call.
