sign in popups

Notification to sign in to iTunes store appears randomly, when I am not using the Store and do not want to.

Popup has begun to appear in multiples and refuses to close. I just had to click "cancel" 14 times just to get back to what I was doing.

Computer will not shut down when this happens. "iTunes prevented shutdown" appears.

It's invasive and I want to stop it, how?
