No internet connection after power outage

I have an Airport Extreme Model A1408. I had a power outage today and when power restorted I had no internet connection. I have a Spectrum Modem and I got no internet connection when I bypassed my router and went straight from the Modem to my MBP. I went to Spectrum and got a new Modem. I was able to get connection when plugging my new modem directly to MBP but not when I ran it through my router.

I tried unplugging router and plugging it back in. I tried intervals of unplugging anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes with no luck. The light on the front blinks one time amber, then blinks one time in green then stays solid amber when I hit the reset button.

I tried a hard reset with the power cord plugged in, then again with it unplugged then I tried it with the power unplugged, pressed and held the reset button, plugged the router back in, then when the light blinks several times amber, I released the reset button.

Nothing has seemed to work. is my router dead or is there something else I should try?

As LaPastenague notes, it really is time for a new router. But, if you want to give it one more last ditch effort......with no guarantee that this will help.......try a new replacement outboard power supply.

You can probably return the power supply for a refund or credit if it does not help, so your investment is minimal.

If the power outage was caused by a thunderstorm, lightning can do some strange things......like ignore power strips. Ethernet cables can act like antennas to attract a hit from a nearby lightning strike.

What usually happens is that the nearby lighting strike fries the Ethernet port and some of the other internal components on a device. So, the AirPort Extreme might still power up, but the port will not allow a signal to pass. Same for a modem.

If there were not any storms during the power outage, then your surge protectors did not protect fast enough before the protection kicked in. Some devices might still work while others fail when this occurs. Basically, it is a game of chance.

I do believe my router is dead. I'm not sure why a power outage killed my Spectrum Modem AND my Apple Airport Extreme at the same time when they are on power surge strips. I remembered I have an Airport Express hooked up in another room to extend my wifi range. I was able to use that as a main router temporarily until I can figure out which new permanent router to get.

Solid Amber is a bad sign.. it is usually a dead power supply. It could be external.. ie the plug pack which can be replaced.. but more likely internal. Or a major soldering fault which is showing up on some of these..

I would say time is up..

It has served at least 6 years.. and probably more. Well beyond the lifespan of average domestic routers so you got your money's worth.

Now Apple is no longer in the airport business.. (or planes for that matter).

You will need to think more broadly about what your future options are.

You may want to open router's settings to check if they are still present and correct. If that didn't work, I would suggest you to buy a new router, as it may have malfunctioned.
