Using Apple Remote to control Netflix and Spotify on Mac

Good morning,

I have a Mac mini (later 2014) attached to my bedroom's TV, primary to use it as my computer. Now I wanted to use it even as a media server, I mean stuff like watch Netflix and listen to my Spotify playlists from my bed or in some other place in my room.

Yesterday I discovered that Apple sells it's remote (the one for the Apple TV 3nd Gen) for a very cheap price rather than buying one of the thousands of media box in the web. For all the supported apps plus Spotify I know how it works but I don't know if it works even with Netflix, 'cause it's a web browser page...

Indeed Netflix no longer provide a native Mac application so you have to use a web-browser. As some of the Apple remote buttons effectively work like keyboard commands it maybe some of the basic functions like play and pause might work regardless. I have however found that Mira which is software that extends the capabilities of using a remote on a Mac does have some specific support for Netflix so that might help you. You can try out the trial version. You probably need to have your web-browser running in full screen mode.
