iPad "Screen Time" password

We have an iPad Air II. OS 12.1.1. The "Screen Time" app was loaded as part of OS12 update. We did not set up screen time. It just started displaying notifications automatically. I want to turn this app off but have no clue what the passcode is because we never set one. Some posts on this subject have suggested the code may be the one used to set Restrictions. We have never setup Restrictions either.

I understand that the only way to reset is to do a clean reinstall. Does anyone have another method?

But my real issue is Apple activating this app without our permission and then protecting it with a PIN that we do not have access to. Was this Apples intent?

Thanks for your reply. I believe I had read the link you posted.

Wiping the iPad (using iTunes on my iMac) seems to be the only way to resolve this problem. I went ahead and wiped the device following online instructions. This resolved the issue.

I was sure I had not set up any "Restrictions" with a passcode in the past. However, it is my understanding that it would be the only way for Screen Time to set up with a passcode "automatically".

I understand that Screen Time was installed as part of the iOS 12 update and now you are being asked for the passcode that you never set up. I would point you to this post in the Communities where another user received assistance that he indicated resolved the issue for them.

What is Screen Time passcode in iOS 12?
