I see that you're trying to uninstall Google Drive from your Mac. Just so that you know, the files saved in Google Drive folder is intended to remain as it is even when you uninstall Drive. To fully uninstall Drive from your Mac, I suggest trying the below steps:

  1. Copy any files and folders you want to keep on your computer to a different folder.
  1. Open Finder and click Applications.
  2. Drag the Google Drive app into the Trash on your dock.
  3. In the top left of your screen, click Finder > Empty Trash.
  4. To delete any files you no longer want, go to My Drive. If you didn't save files on your computer, this is the only copy.

This being done, you can try deleting the files manually from the Drive Sync Client folder.

Google has rolled out a new syncing feature in Google Drive that can help free up space on a computer.

Until now, syncing on Google Drive meant duplicating everything in the cloud on your computer, taxing precious local storage. Even if you're using a chunk of Google's lower-tier 1TB storage, syncing everything isn't ideal for many computers.

An update for Google Drive for Mac and Windows changes that situation by allowing users to pick and choose which folders and subfolders are to be synced and the ones that shouldn't be.

This change makes sense given it would be impossible for the vast majority of computers to sync everything from Google's 30TB Drive plan.

To select which folders are available for syncing, click the Google Drive icon and open Preferences and then go to Sync Options. There's now one option to, 'Sync everything from My Drive' and another to 'Sync only these folders'.

Because MAC synced with google drive, it used up all memory and I can't download my email..Can't I keep GOOGLE drive on my Mac, but just get it so I put in what I want? At the moment, everything from the Mac synced into google drive so there is no memory left and I cannot download my emails.

If I uninstall it from the Mac - will it still exist to be used on other devices, but will everything from the Mac currently on google drive disappear?

So I appreciate your help. but I need to Alaska few more questions.

  1. So if I uninstall drive from Mac...all the files will still remain on it - and it will not resolve the problem of having all my memory used up?
  2. Also are you saying that the files that synced with google drive will disappear when I uninstall? It pulled items off my desktop, documents and pictures???
  3. So you are saying that I have to save all of these in a separate place on computer. Meaning that when I uninstall I will lose all this items off my computer???

First of all, disconnect your Google account and quit Google Drive…

Before uninstalling Google Drive, you should first disconnect your account to stop syncing completely. To do so, open up Google Drive, head to the Google Drive > Preferences from the top bar, and choose Disconnect Account in the Preferences pane.

Then you can quit Google Drive by selecting Google Drive > Quit Google Drive from the top bar. Additionally you can launch Activity Monitor to see if any process related to Google Drive is running on the background, and quit the process there.

If the app stays in Dock, right click it and choose Options > Remove from Dock.
