Why can't I download all the files from my iCloud?

I only have 500GB on my macbook. I upgraded iCloud storage and several very complicated projects got uploaded to the cloud. Now, I have 1TB of iCloud documents on my computer and can't even access them. Tried to go on to iCloud to download the whole folders and low and behold, I have to download individual files?!

This is worse than a nightmare. Is there any way to download everything onto a separate drive? I love the way dropbox works in this way - I can download entire folders from DB - but not from iCloud... ugh.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what can be done?

Thanks in advance!

My Best,

Chase

If your iCloud storage is exceeding the limits , first reduce the iCloud storage space see these articles https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204247

https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12790?locale=en_US&viewlocale=en_US

Then save the files into the desired location see this article https://support.apple.com/en-in/HT204055#documents

After that you can even connect an external hard drive to Mac , then drag and drop files into it .
