Find and Replace a Return Character

I am trying to use Find/Replace to replace a Return Character (Soft Break or Line Feed) with a space. I can't get Find to allow me to enter a Return Character or copy a Return Character into the Find field. In MS Word I would use ^p to define a Return character. I have looked in Invisible Characters and Formatting Characters with no help.

In order to enter a Return Character into the Find Field of Find/Replace hold down the Option Key and press Return. Then in the Replace Field type what you want to replace the Return Character, I used a space character. I touched the All button and easy peasy all of the offending Return Characters were replaced.

It would be cool if that were documented somewhere so it could be found.
