Podcasts in iTunes: View > ViewAs > List vs Classic List

In Classic List I'm shown as being subscribed to my favorite podcast. In List view I'm shown as Not Subscribed and the toggle to subscribe is locked. The podcast sometimes goes out of sync with my iOS devices, which are currently in sync but sometimes randomly register as unsubscribed and go out of sync.

Why is the subscription information not the same?

Why is the choice locked?

Could this be why I periodically go out of sync on the podcast?

How can I fix this without deleting everything?

Is there a comprehensive, nuts and bolts guide anywhere to everything about the Podcast app?
