iPhone Turns on Apple TV (ATV) by it self

I’ve seen this post about “ATV turning on by its self” in different sites. To summarize, people suggested:

1 - Turning off auto updates

2 - Turning off background refresh

3 - closing all apps

4 - change TV source before putting ATV to sleep to prevent it from turning Tv on. (But then your ATV will be on)

My root cause problem turned out to be much worse. The only way I was able to prevent ATV turning on is by putting my iPhone on airplan mode.... which tells me the iPhone XS max was triggering some how my ATV on after putting it to sleep.

Well I figured out how to stop it from turning back on, put my phone in airplane mode for 5 minites after ATV is turned off. Its consistently reproducible.

Btw the other thread shows many have the same problem and couldn’t resolve it. Some gave up on ATV, some installed remote switch to force it off, some plugged their ATV to cable/TV power to use another remote to cut off power.

As to your last point, instead of blaiming a customer/user network, please look into it. I can help with logs from my devices.

I already spent lots of time making sure it is nothing else on the network.

If the iPhone is turning on the Apple TV, make sure airplay is disabled.

If the Apple TV is turning on by itself. It will either be picking up on network activity (troubleshooting required) or it is receiving the signal via HDMI CEC unprompted (based on an issue with the TV)

It would be caused by something within one's setup and not a common occurrence for the millions of other users

1- nothing on my phone is in airplay mode, not playing any music, etc...

2- I had the same setup and network for over a year, the only thing that is different is iphone and iO

3- many are having the same issue, google it...!

4- this issue is reproducable consistently, within 1-2 minutes of putting ATV, it turns back on , off and then on.. loop 1-2 minutes

Only when i put iphone in airplay it stops. I am a 100% sure iPhone.... ATV are stuck in a loop.

maybe ATV remote app in iPhone? Or iWatch?

5- fulll ATV reset didn’t resolve the problem..

That’s not a solution, that’s a temporary bandaid measure. No, that other thread shows a few users are having the issue and the same causes were discussed. There will be users who would rather put blame elsewhere then acknowledge it may be something within their environment.

This is a user forum, no one here works for Apple.

Those who put the devices through their paces for the forum to help users cannot reproduce such an issue and it is working just fine for the vast majority. If there were an inherent flaw as claimed it would be quite the opposite.

Not blaming the network, simply stating a fact. You have made no mention of what troubleshooting you’ve done. You have made it clear what your intention is so there is no point continuing this discussion.

No, your intention is to place blame on the product and bypass the facts that contradict that assessment

As already stated the solution is found within troubleshooting one's network and environment and users who have done that have rectified the issue. There is nothing for Apple to fix and as such it is working just fine for the vast majority.

This is a user forum, no one here is from Apple nor will they be seeing this. So on both accounts it is not of purpose to continue to respond.

Network issues can come at any time.

You referenced one thread and while there may be other posts it is from a select group. When those users actually troubleshoot the cause is found and the issue solved.

It is working just fine for the vast majority. I have have also had many units over the years and done vigorous testing, and it has never occurred.

Bottom line is that it is something within your environment. If you would rather make assumptions and point the finger that is your choice, but it won’t rectify the issue.
