saving photos on my Mac but deleting them fro iPhone

I read recently that I could delete photos from my iPhone but first my save them to my computer (iMac desktop)...how exactly is this done?

You would import them to your MAC Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support or you can use airdrop Use AirDrop on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
