Transparent Images Printing Gray in Word Docs

I I have a transparent image behind text in my Word document. When I try printing or saving my document as a PDF, the image appears gray instead of transparent. This seems to have started when I upgraded to Mojave and it's happening to all of my Word documents that have images.

I'm using Mojave 10.14.2 and Word 16.16.5.

I've read of a workaround with Photoshop, which I don't have.

I've been spending a lot of time on this with Apple Chat.

They are sending to engineering team.

However, I think I've narrowed down the issue.

The problem is occurring when the graphic is a png file.

If I save the graphic as a jpg and put back in the word doc, it prints fine and saves as a pdf without graying out the graphic.

I've tested on several documents now and this works. :)

Unfortunately it is also when drawing a form in e.g. powerpoint that is filled with color transitions and transparancy.

If you try to print or save as a PDF the slide shows grey in the lighter part of the drawing instead of the chosen color.

The only workaround is to save the drawing as JPG or better TIFF (better resolution) and reintroduce in the slide before printing.

So it is not only with PNG images, but must have to do with rendering the transparency. This must be a bug introduced with Mojave. I am on 10.14.2. I hope it gets solved in the coming 14.3.
