I go to system preferences to login to icloud. I enter appleid then I enter my password it starts to process information 30 seconds later it goes back to prompt to enter appleid. This is also happening when trying to connect icloud to mail. Any help would be appreciated.

My guess is that your Keychain is corrupt and if you want to use your original user account, you will need to create a new one.

The idea is to try to log in with the same ID from a new user account. This would rule out any issues with the original user account.
Can you successfully log into Manage your Apple ID with the ID that you are trying to use on your MacBook? Do you have any issues logging into iCloud from another device? If you create a new user account on your notebook, and log in with it, can you log into iCloud now?
I created a new user I’d and I was able to log in. But how do I get my previous I’d to work?
I can successfully manage login to iCloud from a web browser. I can also login to iTunes and iMessage. No problem logging into iCloud from iPhone. Have not tried to create a new user account.
